Hi.

Welcome to my blog, an honest account of dating and love in these modern times. A self proclaimed lover of love, I hope you like my stories and the people in them as much as I enjoy writing about them.

My 'I Do' Love Fest

My 'I Do' Love Fest

I recently attended the wedding of the year, perhaps even the century… The day was flawless. The sky was blue and cloudless, the venue legitimately took my breath away, the floral arrangements were perfection and when the grooms entered the room to cheers followed by faces a mess with tears, I was overcome with emotion about the very real reason weddings are so special.

Getting engaged is the best feeling in the world, I have said to people that if you could bottle that feeling and sell it, the world would be a much happier place. It's not about the ring, although that is a nice added benefit, it's about the fact that someone has decided that you are the person they want to spend the rest of their days with. A massive commitment that means so much.

The wedding I recently attended held even more significance because the two people getting married were able to do so in this country legally. When they originally got engaged they had planned to marry somewhere legally and have a party here, that would have still been a joy, but my gosh watching them legally say their I do's was something I'll never forget.

I felt genuinely honoured to be included in their day. Just like their love for each other and their friends, they wanted their day to be big and special. Let me tell you something, attending the wedding of an events expert is something else. The amount of detail involved and no stone left unturned arrangements would make your head spin. The food was delish, the wine was mostly French, the table arrangements were spectacular, each person found their spot based on a little clue that only the two of you would understand, there were confetti cannons, there was an espresso martini bar, I mean the care and thought that went into this day was off the heez. But yummy drinks and gay realness aside, the most beautiful part of the day were the words.

Their bridal party did a spectacular job of speeches, funny and moving. But the boys' to each other were amazing as well. They announced that they would be taking on the one surname, a surname that I have loved over my friendship with him, it's unique and special just as he is and now for the two of them to share this is name, is even more fitting. I have lost the connection to my last name of the years, just as one of the grooms had, when he said how proud he was to take on that family name, I completely understood where he was coming from. The joy I feel at taking on the ball and chain's name is immense because it will make me feel even more connected to him and the future of our family together.

There was a song sang, a fabulous song filled with gorgeous words, that you could tell as the groom was singing them that he meant every word. Other than entertaining the absolute shiz out of his guests, this groom knew that singing that song meant something so much more to his groom, it was a very public declaration, a memory they will share forever.

I have also never seen so many photographers in one room, there was even one in the sky in the form of a drone to capture the crowd on the villa terrace, I mean YEAH! The amount of photographers was genius though. No one man could have scooted around that room and captured all the glorious moments, by having a gaggle of them, they will be able to recapture everyone's joy and delight and be able to keep it forever.

A week has passed since the day (more by the time this post comes up) and I am suffering serious post wedding blues. Days after the ball and chain and I were still speaking about it and I was still crying wee tears of joy about how memorable it was. The two of them are now off honeymooning in Europe and continuing their celebratory high of becoming one unit and each other's for life.

I wish them all the happiness this planet could possibly provide them. I worry not for their future together, because they stood up in front of all of us and told us this was forever and I believe it will be and beyond. As my own nuptials fast approaches, I feel excited to experience the sheer joy that these two did on their own day.

A&J, I love you and wish you nothing but the best for the years ahead and can't wait to keep riding the wave with you! And P.S. maybe have a one year wedding anniversary for us all to do it again!
